A man is recovering after a balaclava-clad attacker approached and slashed him with a machete, police say. A 60-year-old youth worker at McDermot Avenue Baptist Church confronted a suspect wearing a balaclava at about 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of McDermot Avenue near Tecumseh Street. The man asked the suspect to leave the area. The suspect then slashed him in the arm and ran off, police said.
Police arrested a 17-year-old boy shortly after 9 p.m. He has been charged with assault with a weapon and eight counts of probation violation. The suspect also had a warrant out for his arrest, police said. The suspect and victim do not appear to know each other, police spokesman Const. Rob Carver said. The 17-year-old remains in custody.
